About the Role
The Marine Protection and Planning Coordinator supports community-led marine planning initiatives, primarily in Western Newfoundland. This role focuses on building strong partnerships with Indigenous communities, stakeholders, and national coalitions to advance marine conservation goals.
You’ll work at the intersection of community engagement, marine policy, and environmental advocacy, helping drive meaningful change in ocean protection.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and support community-based marine planning and mapping initiatives
Collaborate with Indigenous partners on marine stewardship and research projects
Design and facilitate participatory mapping and engagement sessions
Develop outreach and communication materials for community involvement
Support regional and national marine protection campaigns and strategies
Represent EAC in coalitions, advisory committees, and stakeholder meetings
Track marine conservation policies and government commitments
Act as a spokesperson on marine protection issues when needed
Contribute to grant writing, reporting, and fundraising efforts
Coordinate project timelines, deliverables, and partnerships
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum 3+ years in community engagement, project coordination, or environmental work
Experience in marine conservation, policy, or planning
Knowledge of marine protected areas and ocean governance in Canada
Familiarity with Indigenous stewardship and community collaboration
Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills
Experience organizing meetings, workshops, or community events
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication (written and verbal) skills
Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
Assets:
Experience with tools like ArcGIS, NVivo, or R
Knowledge of Newfoundland and Labrador coastal communities
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel
