Role:
The Family Program Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the delivery of quality programs for children, parents/caregivers who are participants in CAPC programs. This includes the provision of supervision and support to front line CAPC staff members.
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Program Support:
- Creating an environment within CAPC programs that is most conducive to meeting the needs of children and parents/caregivers attending programs. This includes ensuring a respectful, safe and nurturing environment for the children and families;
- Building a relationship of trust; mutual respect and caring for children and parents/caregivers who attend CAPC programs;
- Ensuring the implementation and monitoring of quality CAPC child development programs;
- Recognizing problems as learning opportunities for children and parents/caregivers.
- Utilizing evaluation results along with other information sources to ensure the ongoing effectiveness and relevance of CHANCES Family Centre for participants;
- Collect and compile program data as required to support ongoing evaluations and program monitoring.
- Facilitating high quality parent sessions using an approach which supports the strength based model and adult learning principles.
2. Supporting Parents:
- Respecting parents/caregivers values and attitudes as well as understanding their different approaches to parenting;
- Communicating openly and effectively with parents/caregivers;
- Exchanging information with parents/caregivers and supporting them on behalf of the child;
- Involving parents/caregivers in every aspect of the program, recognizing their different abilities, needs, and capacities;
- Introducing new families to CHANCES Family Centre programs, helping them feel welcome and comfortable in the environment and outlining the CHANCES Family Centre’s program policies.
- Setting up meetings with families referred through Family Court, Community Mental Health, and Family Physicians etc. to provide information and support regarding parent sessions and supports.
3. Staff Supervision and Support:
- Facilitating bi-weekly supervision sessions and conducting annual performance reviews for each staff person for whom you are responsible;
- Assisting staff in establishing work related goals and developing plans that will support them in achieving their goals.
- Identifying training needs, along with seeking training opportunities for staff;
- Participating in team meetings;
- Ensuring policies set out in the Employee Handbook are followed.
- To provide training and support to staff with regard to implementing the PEI Early Learning Framework;
- To support staff in documenting children’s learning;
4. Volunteer and Student Placements:
- Supporting volunteers who are assisting with CHANCES Family Centre programs to ensure their work is a mutually beneficial experience for the children, the parents/caregivers, the centre, and the volunteer;
- Providing supervision and support to students who are on On-The-Job placements with CHANCES Family Centre. The intention is to allow them to expand their experience and expertise while contributing to the work of the program.
5. Other
- Other work related duties as may be assigned by the Program Coordinator or Executive Director.
