The Community Relations Coordinator will focus on building community and
enhancing community safety through proactive initiatives. This role is vital to
advancing BIPOC USHR’s mission of creating braver spaces where BIPOC
communities are engaged, supported, and their voices amplified. The role
encompasses three core areas of responsibility:
1. Community Resource Development (30%)
2. Community Building and Events Coordination (60%)
3. Service Navigation and Advocacy (10%)
Key competencies for this role include community engagement, cultural
competency, organizational skills, and an ability to navigate complex systems to
meet community needs.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Community Building and Events Coordination (60%)
● Address the social and emotional needs of BIPOC communities on PEI by
developing innovative programs, events, and resources.
● Conduct needs assessments to identify gaps in services and collaborate with
BIPOC USHR to propose solutions.
● Attend and actively engage in community events to strengthen relationships
and promote unity among diverse groups.
● Organize, deliver, and evaluate events, and assist with event-specific
fundraising efforts.
● Develop and manage a volunteer/peer support program, including recruiting,
training, and assigning tasks to volunteers.
2. Community Resource Development (30%)
● Create, maintain, and update a comprehensive directory of resources relevant
to BIPOC community members, including housing, justice, immigration,
education, health, and social assistance.
● Stay informed about current community resources, service providers, and
initiatives.
● Organize and host community conversations and information sessions
addressing key topics and needs.
● Develop educational tools and publish the BIPOC USHR newsletter to share
resources and updates.
3. Service Navigation and Advocacy (10%)
● Provide support to community members by assessing their needs, offering
referrals, and advocating for their access to necessary services.
● Work collaboratively with government and non-government organizations to
address service gaps and improve access for BIPOC communities.
● Maintain accurate, confidential records of client interactions and outcomes.
General Responsibilities
● Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance skills, knowledge,
and networking opportunities.
● Stay informed about the latest developments and research related to BIPOC
community experiences.
● Assist in developing policies and procedures to strengthen community
programs.
Qualifications
Education:
● Degree or diploma in social sciences, human services, or related fields (e.g.,
psychology, anthropology, political science, occupational therapy) or
equivalent work experience.
Experience and Skills:
● Strong understanding of the needs of BIPOC communities on PEI.
● Knowledge of community resources related to justice, education, healthcare,
housing, employment, and violence prevention.
● Demonstrated experience in advocacy, community building, event planning,
and fundraising.
● Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
● Proficiency with Canva, Excel, Google Suite, and other relevant tools.
● Research experience and the ability to synthesize information effectively.
● Self-motivated and able to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Additional Requirements:
● Commitment to inclusive, anti-oppressive, and anti-racist practices.
● Demonstrated self-awareness and understanding of personal limits.
● Knowledge of and experience living in PEI.
● Criminal Record Check clearance.
● Familiarity with tools and platforms for event management and resource
directories is an asset.
● Other additional languages are an asset.
